Toolie’s Website Tips: Sharing Your Video Embedding Code
I just sent an email to my subscribers on the Website and Blog tips newsletter about sharing the code for YOUR videos with others. A client and student of mine, Lisa, contacted me recently to ask how YouTube creates one of those little boxes where you can highlight and copy the code to your own web page.
The tag used is TEXTAREA. It has 3 attributes that you will want to use: rows, columns, and readonly. You control the width and height using rows and cols, and exactly how many to use depends entirely on how much space you have to devote to the TEXTAREA on the page. Then in between the opening and closing tag, you put the exact OBJECT code you want people to copy, and that code appears in the box. By adding the readonly attribute, you lessen the chance that someone will mess up the code as they copy it to their web page.
I gave my subscribers a more complete description of how this is done in my Website Tips email. To encourage you to sign up to receive these tips, I’ll send you a copy of that email when you sign up for the Website and Blog Tips Newsletter, sent out on an irregular basis. Just fill in your name and email at right, and you’ll receive the link to the instructions right away. Be assured, I do not share or sell your information to anyone.
While we’re talking about video, let me also point out the link to my friend Mike Stewart’s Two Buck Themes membership site. I’ve been a customer, fan, and friend of Mike’s for years, and this monthly subscription to new audio tracks is fantastic. It’s one of the best bargains on the Internet.
Adding music to your video tracks sets the tone for your message and greatly increases the appeal of your video. Click the ”Music Makes It Better” image on the right to find out more about Two Buck Themes.
Until next time, keep coding!
